On 30 November and 1 December 2021, the 13th Top Regulators’ Meeting on Nuclear Safety (TRM) incorporating TRM+ was held via video conference. The meeting was chaired by Mr. BAN Nobuhiko, Commissioner of the Nuclear Regulation Authority of Japan (NRA), with the participation of Mr. JANG Bohyon, Executive Commissioner and Secretary-General, Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) of the ROK and Mr. JIANG Guang, Director General, Department of Nuclear Facility Safety Regulation of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (National Nuclear Safety Administration) of China (MEE/NNSA). TCS Deputy Secretary-General SAKATA Natsuko attended the meeting as an observer and delivered opening remarks. 

In her remarks, DSG SAKATA emphasized the important role of TRM in ensuring nuclear safety in the region where nuclear power serves as one of the key stable energy sources. Furthermore, she expressed appreciation to the nuclear regulatory authorities of the three countries for their unwavering efforts to strengthen nuclear safety cooperation through various activities against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. She highlighted TCS’s readiness to further cooperate with TRM. 

The three agencies shared updates on status and progress regarding nuclear safety activities in each country and exchanged views on topics of common interest. They committed to continuing trilateral cooperation on nuclear safety and agreed that the next TRM will be held in ROK in 2022.
