On 6 April, TCS Secretary-General Amb. OU Boqian and Deputy Secretaries-General BEK Bum-hym and SAKATA Natsuko (collectively the “Consultative Board”) paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and met with the assistant minister H.E. NONG Rong (农融), to exchange views on the progress of trilateral cooperation among China, Japan and the ROK, as well as the future direction of TCS. 

The Assistant Minister H.E. NONG Rong welcomed the 6th TCS consultative board to China for the courtesy call. He spoke highly of the significance of the trilateral cooperation and the efforts made by TCS during the past one and half years. He noted that the three countries have the capacity and necessity to further advance the trilateral practical cooperation to a higher level and requested TCS to continue to explore new areas for future trilateral cooperation. He highlighted that consolidating the basis of public opinion among the three countries and promoting public awareness of the trilateral cooperation should be the important areas for the future work of TCS in order to bring more momentum in this regard. He expressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China will continue to provide sufficient support to TCS as always and looked forward to the greater concrete contributions to be made by TCS. 

TCS Secretary-General Amb. OU Boqian appreciated the strong and continuous support from the Ministry. She introduced the past and ongoing efforts of TCS in various areas to promote the development of the trilateral cooperation since the 6th board took office, including think-tanks cooperation, youth exchange, cultural exchange, economy and sustainable development. She noted that the 1st Trilateral Visionary Group (TVG) was successfully held in Xiamen on 2-3 April and received concreted suggestions from the eminent participants for future trilateral cooperation. She suggested the Ministries considering mandating the TVG to provide policy recommendations to the governments. She emphasized that TCS will spare no effort to enhance the trilateral exchanges in the areas of local governments, youth, culture, media and think-tanks, and explore more opportunities of trilateral cooperation on digital economy, green economy, carbon neutrality and others. 

Before the meeting, TCS Consultative Board had an official talk with Ms. FANG Hong (方虹), Deputy Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs and exchanged views on the progress and new changes of the trilateral cooperation and the ongoing and future projects of TCS to advance trilateral people to people exchanges, including the CJK Spirit Word of the Year 2023, Trilateral Youth Exchange Network (TYEN), CCEA media and Internet Celebrities Tour, International Forum on Trilateral Cooperation, PR promotion and others. 

DDG FANG Hong conveyed the welcome message from the Executive Vice Foreign Minister H.E. MA Zhaoxu to the TCS delegation. Mr. MA felt pity that he could not meet with the delegation as it was scheduled due to sudden change of his schedule. He highly appreciated TCS’ contributions to enhance the trilateral cooperation and he is confident that the trilateral cooperation will play a more important role for the lasting peace, common prosperity and shared culture in the region.
