On March 27, 2019, the TCS delegation attended the Culture City of East Asia 2019 opened in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi province. DSG YAMAMOTO Yasushi delivered congratulatory remarks at the ceremony. Zhang Xu, China’s cultural and tourism vice-minister, Hu Minglang, vice-governor of Shaanxi province, Li Mingyuan, mayor of Xi'an, as well as representatives from the Culture Cities of East Asia 2019 South Korea’s Incheon and Japan’s Toshima-ku attended the event.
In the congratulatory remarks, DSG YAMAMOTO emphasized the importance of the Culture City of East Asia program and asked the three cities to seize the opportunity to promote its cultural exchange and enhance the understanding and friendship among people from the three countries.
The year-round activities of Culture City of East Asia 2019 in Xi'an will cover various areas such as public cultural construction, intangible cultural heritage protection, public cultural undertakings, cultural industries, international cultural exchanges.
Aiming to promote cultural diversity in East Asia, the Culture City of East Asia program is an initiative of China, Japan and ROK based on the agreement of the ministers of culture of the respective governments. Every year one city in each country is selected to promote the diverse cultures of East Asia to the world.
