Deputy Secretary-General LEE Jong-heon Delivered a Presentation in the Northeast Asia Forum on Air Q

TCS Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) LEE Jong-heon attended the Northeast Asia Forum on air Quality Improvement organized by Seoul Metropolitan Government on May 19 in Seoul City Hall, under the theme of ‘Municipal Cooperation for Clean Air in Northeast Asia’. The Forum invited about 13 provinces/cities (Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Jilin, Hongkong, Guiyang, Beijing, Tianjin, Kitakyushu, Shandong, Ulaanbaatar), and 300 municipal air quality experts from multiple organizations including TCS, NASA, ICLEI (Local Government for Sustainability) World Secretariat, Energy Foundation Beijing Office and so on.
In the opening address of the Forum, Mr. PARK Wonsoon, Mayor of Seoul Metropolitan Government, characterized the Northeast Asia as ‘one community where citizens breathe the same air’ and emphasized that the municipal cooperation for clean air in Northeast Asia is crucial since it is difficult for only one city to solve the air quality program.
TCS DSG LEE Jong-heon gave a presentation on China-Japan-Korea Trilateral Cooperation in the Plenary Session 2, ‘Toward Closer Cooperation for Clean Air in Northeast Asia’. He introduced overview of trilateral cooperation, tripartite central government cooperation on environmental protection especially in the field of air quality improvement, multiple examples of trilateral local government cooperation in various fields, and TCS’ role for development of trilateral cooperation.
The Forum participants adopted Seoul Declaration in order to deepen the municipal cooperation on air quality improvement. The Forum also organized a special session on Global and Regional Solutions for Better Air Quality and East Asia Clean Air Cities (EACAC) Initiative organized by ICLEI East Asia Secretariat and announced commitment to EACAC Initiative. This Initiative aims to establish a long-term cooperation platform for East Asian cities committed to tackling air pollution through city-to-city exchange and collaboration.
