The TCS organized “Special Meeting on Trilateral Cooperation and Trans-Border Issues: Regional approach in light of 20 years of CJK cooperation” on 25 July 2019 at the TCS. The meeting aimed to review the progress and future direction of trilateral cooperation on various trans-border issues, and to facilitate inter-regional partnership in a way that strengthens regional capacity against trans-border problems.
The first session, titled ‘Regional Efforts for Responding to Trans-Border Challenges of Today and Tomorrow: Perspective from CJK and other regions,’ featured presentations by the representatives of several regional organizations, namely the TCS, the Nordic Council of Ministers(NCM), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the Southeast Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Secretariat. The speakers touched upon the respective organizations’ strategic approach to trans-border issues and good practices of regional policies.
At the second session on ‘The Future Direction for Strengthening Regional Resilience in East Asia,’ CJK scholars delivered presentations on trilateral cooperation in the areas of maritime security, cyber security, and energy security respectively, and a representative from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) East and North-East Asia Office discussed environmental cooperation in Northeast Asia.
During the plenary discussions, the participants exchanged ideas for cooperation between the participating organizations and ways to promote trilateral cooperation on the trans-border issues discussed at the meeting.
