The TCS organized ‘Young Professionals Exchange X Inter-Regional Dialogue’ at the TCS International Conference Hall on 18 July, 2019. The dialogue was co-organized with the East Asian International Relations (EAIR) Caucus, a renowned researchers’ network in ASEAN. Under the theme of “20 Years of Trilateral Cooperation and Visions Beyond the Region - Multi-track Aspirations and Actions for ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation,“ the dialogue brought together professors and young professionals from both CJK and ASEAN countries to discuss vision for sustainable cooperation between the two regions.
At the Experts’ Roundtable, professors exchanged views on potential areas for further cooperation, while identifying both the leading factor in regional cooperation, particularly reflecting on the experiences of ASEAN, and challenges that may become a stumbling block to the future APT cooperation. A session among young professionals was followed in the afternoon where the participants presented concrete proposals for cooperation in such areas as sustainable development, security, digital cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, based on ‘ASEAN Plus Three Work Plan 2018-2022’ adopted by the 18th APT Foreign Ministers Meeting in Manila, in 2017. Throughout the dialogue, the participants highlighted on the importance of institution-building, role of leadership, and making the work plan more ‘actionable’ so that there would be further development in the implementation of agreed projects.
