On July 2, 2019, the International Manga Competition, Wukong Awards, revealed its 11 winners at award ceremony in Beijing, China. DSG Yamamoto Yasushi was invited to present awards to the winners. FANG Zhenghui, Deputy Director of China International Publishing Group(CIPG), WANG Hanping, Vice President of People’s China magazine, ITO Naoto, Councilor of Japanese Embassy in China, MATSUTANI Takayuki, President of TEZUKA Production and representatives from Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs ,Japanese culture center and other manga companies attended the event.
Organized by CIPG, People’s China magazine and other manga companies, this year’s competition has received over 1,000 participants to submit their work, including over 200 from Japan and South Korea.
The Wukong Manga Competition was established in 2016. At first, the event aimed to promote manga exchange between China and Japan. In 2018, it extended to other countries including South Korea.
After the awards, a seminar about Manga industry was held at the CIPG. Guests and experts discussed their opinion on how to promote trilateral cooperation in the field of manga industry.
