2021.11.24
On November 24, 2021, TCS Secretary-General Amb. OU Boqian, Deputy Secretary-General BEK Bum-hym and Deputy Secretary-General SAKATA Natsuko (collectively as the “Consultative Board”) paid a courtesy call on Mr. JEONG Daejin, Deputy Minister for Trade, at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE). Both sides exchanged views on the progress and prospect of trilateral cooperation in the field of economy and trade.
SG OU noted with appreciation that, with the Ministries’ support, the TCS was able to participate in the economic and trade mechanisms as a facilitator for follow-up measures, adding that the TCS would continue to seek ways to provide more substantial contributions to consultative mechanisms. Furthermore, SG OU shared the relevant projects and activities in the areas where TCS places high importance, such as FTA and RCEP, aging society, Yellow Sea Rim economy, sustainable and smart city, and digital economy. She also underlined the ongoing efforts made by the TCS in compiling Trilateral Economic Report and establishing TCS Statistics Hub. To better promote these initiatives, she asked for the continuous support and guidance from the MOTIE.
Deputy Minister JEONG commended the achievements of the current leadership made during the short period of time since taking office. He also spoke highly of the TCS’ contributions to the implementation of follow-up projects including the Improvement of Supply Chain Connectivity (SCC) and Joint Study on E-Commerce. In particular, he appreciated the TCS’ efforts to compile the Outcome Report of the Joint Study on E-Commerce with the recommendation of establishing a Public-Private Dialogue, and reassured the TCS that MOTIE is willing to participate in the relevant discussions in the future. While supporting consultative mechanisms takes up an important part of TCS’ mission, Deputy Minister JEONG stressed that it is equally important for the TCS to raise its voice and visibility to the governments, media, and general public of the three countries, expressing his expectation that the TCS can continue to play more roles in improving the relations among the three countries.
