On November 2, 2023, the Culture City of East Asia (CCEA) 2023 Jeonju Closing Ceremony was held at Jeonju National Intangible Heritage Center. The ceremony was hosted by Jeonju City and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the ROK. Director in charge of Culture City of East Asia, Shizuoka Prefecture, Cultural Policy Officer of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the ROK, and the Chinese Consul General in Gwangju attended the event. The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) was also invited to join the closing ceremony.

With the main theme of “Memory”, the ceremony utilized an archive exhibition to display the numerous events Jeonju has organized throughout the year to promote cultural exchange among the three countries. In the closing declaration for the 2023 CCEA, Mayor Woo Beom-ki of Jeonju City emphasized his commitment to further strengthen the unique cultural assets of Jeonju and continue sharing them with the world. The event also featured traditional performances that showcased the cultures of the four 2023 East Asia Culture Cities (Chengdu and Meizhou from China, and Shizuoka Prefecture from Japan) both online and offline.

Since 2014, China, Japan, and the ROK have each designated one city as CCEA and have engaged in trilateral cultural exchanges every year following the agreement made at the 4th Trilateral Culture Ministers' Meeting (TCMM) in 2012. In 2023, Jeonju of the ROK, Chengdu and Meizhou of China, and Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan were designated as CCEAs.

Next year, Dalian and Weifang City (China), Ishikawa Prefecture (Japan) and Gimhae City (ROK) will promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges in collaboration as CCEA 2024.
